Welcome to www.lsst.org.uk the website of Lonsdale Swimming and Sports Trust Ltd (LSST), an organisation established to take on the operation of the ex Derby University Swimming Pool located in Mickleover, Derby. UK now renamed Lonsdale Swimming Pool.

About Lonsdale Swimming & Sports Trust

The University of Derby located in the East Midlands area of the UK, has sold its Mickleover campus to a Development Consortium of House Builders Radleigh, Peveril and Persimmon. The site is home to a 25 metre swimming pool and the Local Plan published by Derby City Council requires that the pool is retained for the benefit of the community.

A group of local pool users has taken on the operation of the pool for the benefit of the current users and others in the local community. Lonsdale Swimming and Sports Trust Limited (LSST), is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity, the pool is being operated by the wholly owned subsidiary Lonsdale Swimming and Sports Trading Limited.

The Lonsdale Swimming Pool name reflects the origins of the pool as a part of the Bishop Lonsdale Diocesan College, which was absorbed into the Derby College of Technology which then changed into the University of Derby in 1992

About Lonsdale Pool

Lonsdale Swimming Pool is used by local clubs, schools, swimming teachers and the public, it is open every day. It provides a large proportion of the training time for the higher user clubs, and as such, is essential to their long term future. Pool time in the Derby area at suitable times for training is in short supply. We have water polo, scuba diving and disability groups as well as competitive clubs using the pool.

News Items

December 2007 – We have had new filters fitted to the pool water treatment system, which required a short 2 day closure period from 17th December. We apologise for the inconvenience and the short notice to users. The old filters have been leaking for some time and were in danger of imminent failure so we took the opportunity to use a short notice availability of the contractors to get them fitted as they could not fit us in during the Christmas shut-down. The new filters have seen an improvement in the water clarity and have increased the daily pool capacity. The pool water temperature fell during the time that the plant was switched off and thus users on the following few days may have noticed it colder than usual!

January 2008 – The Christmas shut-down has seen the changing rooms and entrance area given a new coat of paint. This was scheduled for the August 2007 shut down but was not completed. There are some residual problems with the windows that will be rectified when the weather gets warmer!

January 2008 – We have had a problem with the water system which means that the showers are not working From Friday 25th January We wish to apologise to users for this inconvenience. We are working hard to get them back into operation, it should be possible to do that within 10 days.

February 2008 – The showers were back in use on Friday 1st .Thanks to all users for your forbearance. There is some further work to the water system needed, this may involve a short closure during the next few weeks. We will give as much notice as possible and try to fit it into the lowest usage periods.

March 2008 – We are going to try opening the pool an hour earlier in the mornings at 07:00 from 3rd March 2008 for a trial 3 month period. Thanks to the staff who have agreed to get up an hour earlier to allow for this.
