Lonsdale Swimming Pool is used by local clubs, schools, private hirers and the public, it is open every day. We have water polo, scuba diving and disability groups as well as competitive clubs using the pool.
The University of Derby located in the East Midlands area of the UK, sold its Mickleover campus to a Development Consortium of House Builders Radleigh, Peveril and Persimmon in 2006. The site is home to a 25 metre swimming pool and the Local Plan published by Derby City Council requires that the pool is retained for the benefit of the community until 2025 after which date the pool will lose the Developers support and is likely to close.
A group of local pool users has taken on the operation of the pool for the benefit of the current users and others in the local community. Lonsdale Swimming and Sports Trust Limited (LSST), is a Company Limited by Guarantee and a Registered Charity operating as Social Enterprise. The pool is being operated by the wholly owned subsidiary Lonsdale Swimming and Sports Trading Limited.
Lonsdale Trust is seeking to replace this pool by a new and sustainable pool nearby. If you are able to help with this project then please let us know.
The Lonsdale Swimming Pool name reflects the origins of the pool as a part of the Bishop Lonsdale Diocesan College, which was absorbed into the Derby College of Technology which was absorbed into the University of Derby in 1992.
